Here we go - shifting about £70k...

Today I confessed all to my husband. And by all I mean that I have moved us up to a delightful £70k of debt on credit and store cards.
Tomorrow brings a budget review after actually adding everything up fully and the start of calls to speak to the companies to try and arrange manageable payments.
Hubby is amazed at how I have even managed to get that much credit and I realised he dies have a point! Doesn’t change the fact that i did the spending (and i have no idea what on really)
Now for the new chapter and finding a way to pay this off. Wish us luck. I already feel so much better, especially that i can say us and not me. I really thought he would tell me to leave home but was calm, we talked it through and are doing this together.
I will also add that I have been on anti depressants for almost 20years. Last year I did cbt for anxiety and ended up quitting my job for a better work life balance (and a £20k pay cut...). After talks with my gp I was so much less stressed I weaned off the medication and celebrate 2 weeks of no medication tomorrow.
I’d like to go to a support group or counselling but addiction counselling and groups start at £3 a session - no good when you are trying to clear debt! Might be good value if i find the right one but at the moment I shall be using my diary in this thread.

Hi Maggie
Welcome to the debt free wannabe club. I can so relate to what your saying about not really knowing how the debt got to the point it's at. Been there done that
Our creditors have all been very supportive with us if I'm honest and it takes a great deal of stress away.
Anyway just wanted to wish you good luck on your journey and to say I've subscribed and will be cheering you along. I too will be plodding along right beside you as we also have a mountain to climb. Hiking boots at the ready and off on the journey to debt free land

Are you looking at a DMP? Are you paying interest on that £70k? You might find calling stepchange and getting them to contact creditors would be more fruitful in getting interest stopped and payments reduced to a manageable level. It will trash your credit history though and you might be best closing joint accounts if your husband has a clean record.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
