As been said already, this is a bad idea even if she can actually get a mortgage... U said you can put down a bigger deposit, so consider that along with a 2 year or similar deal with higher interest rate than market. At the money u r borrowing, you won't pay a huge amount more in interest over 2 years...

Re why you missed your payment, personally u have never ever understood the concept of paying bills from a separate account, for exactly the same reason as what happens to you.. With other expenses like entertainment , it may help to budget properly if going in separate account but with bills, it's not worth the risk in my. Opinion...

If I were you I'd rent until you are ready to move in with your girlfriend, then buy a house together in the normal way.
