First times buyer shared ownership

Hey guys new here and just have a couple of questions regarding the mortgage process. Today I received the MOS and have instructed a solicitor but haven't paid a fee yet but I'm nervous that if my mortgage is not approved will I still have to pay the solicitor fee? It's quite pricey nearly 1900. I have been offered a mortgage and my morgage broker is running credit checks and starting the process now. Thanks in advance

  • Solicitors may sometimes ask for an upfront payment to cover initial searches etc but they will never ask for the full amount to be paid upfront. If the purchase falls through if they have commenced no legal work then they usually would not charge you anything
