Unemployment benefits/JSA/Universal Credit

I'm not too sure what the differences are/what the correct term is nowadays! I was wondering if anyone could help me regarding unemployment benefits? I am currently temping and my contract will finish at the end of the year. In the new year, I will be moving to a new city, without a job in place, and I would like to sign-on during this time whilst looking. However, I looked at what was required to claim and it says that you have to have a utility bill/statement with your address on. If I am moving to a new city (and staying with a family member temporarily), does this mean I cannot claim? There must be something in place for people that move to new areas?
If anyone has any information on this, it would be most appreciated!

A utility could be one; but council tax bill, bank statement, any other government letter (eg HMRC if you claim tax credits)
As for what is claimable it depends on your area and circumstances.
Most places are now on UC. (if you have more than 2 children you still claim the legacy benefits)0 -
Thank you for your response. So I can't claim at all then if I don't have anything with my name and address on for that area?0

No. But getting the evidence would only take a few days.Thank you for your response. So I can't claim at all then if I don't have anything with my name and address on for that area?
Council Tax bill is sent out with-in 24 hours.
Bank statement you could change address in advance
UC is claimed online, so by the time you get your appointment, you should have the paperwork0 -
If your sharing you prob won’t be on the council tax bill. Bank statement would work and often a wage slip (they used to need proof of ni and of address so might work out):T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Maybe in your area but the two closest councils to me, one works around 2/3 weeks behind getting the info, the other one I didn’t really take notice but it was almost a month before I got my first bill! Plus, if living with friends/family he’s unlikely to be named on the bill as a liable party. 24 hours is a pipe dream here!0 -

Hmm - the one dept that is on the ball here is the C Tax collections team.
Email through a request and receive a bill two days later.
Fair enough though; I guess some places are busier0 -
Thank you all - I'll see how I get on without a council tax bill/wage slip with the new address on!0

Get your lot up here for some training. We need to embrace technology!
If DWP, HMRC and a central LA system could integrate it would be ideal. I know that technically that's what UC should be. But I mean an actual working version.0
