new contract cancelled 36 hours before start.

I am working as a limited company through employment agencies. I was already in a contract with another agency on a job that was due to end with three weeks of that contract left. I was offered another contract by another agency for two months work which i accepted once i had the confirmation of a start date in writing which came in the form of an email from the agency.
I found accommodation which i paid for upfront and then with 36 hours before the start date, the agency called me and said that the client had cancelled the position. I managed to get some money back from the accommodation but i had lost some £100 in cancellation fees. By leaving the previous contract and not having any work i had had lost a considerable amount of money for being out of work.
Do i have any rights to claiming any lost monies from the new agency for those monies i have lost.
I had no contract at the time as i was told one was being prepared but i have the emails with all the info within them.
The agency are now ignoring my emails and not returning calls.
thanks

I was offered another contract by another agency for two months work which i accepted once i had the confirmation of a start date in writing which came in the form of an email from the agency. - and this was as an employee, or a contract for services with your company?

I think I was offered something like this at my last supply agency, get paid say £150 a day through them, or £200 a day as my own limited company but I had to sort out the tax, NI etc. Seemed more hassle than it was worth...
I don't know the ins and outs but it doesn't really seem like you have your own company, I would have just been Marliepanda's Teaching Services when in fact I was entirely reliant on the agencies for work.0 -

That's the thing you do. If you work through a ltd company, the contract for work is between the agency / client / whatever and your ltd company.
Which means that you personally are owed no money.
AND it means that certain rights, available to both workers and employees, aren't available to you.
Obviously in theory an extra £250 a week sounds great.0 -

I never went any further into it, as soon as they listed the things I had to do for my extra money, plus obviously the TAX and NI had to come off that, I quickly lost interest...0 -

No. The tax and NI comes off what you pay yourself from the LTD company.
So you would have scope to pay out dividents, which would be separately assessed etc.
Granted I agree it's usually not worth while for those sums of money, but when you get to the £400-800 a day range; it's more worthwhile.0 -
Not really any possibility of reclaiming on what you have said. You also terminated the provision of your services early in this instance for the previous contract. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

With respect, !!!! happens. Its unfortunate, but thats what you as a self employed contractor get paid the big bucks for - taking those risks and being available / dropped at short notice.
I'm an IT Contractor and its a risk you have to run - or dont do it
Concentrate your efforts on finding your next contract.0 -

For a mere £200 a day then no its not worth all the hassle.
Most contractors will get a lot more than that though which factors in the costs, risk, etc.0 -
