I'm back (with my tail between my legs!)

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for ages as I've been really busy at work and haven't even had time to lurk. Unfortunately, this seems to have been my downfall as we seem to have fallen back on old habits and our shopping bill has almost doubled.
We've also lost all enthusiasm for mealplanning, so we're struggling to even make up a shopping list to do big shop. We do still cook from scratch as we both had ready meals and don't eat that much processed food. OH is a bit of a health nut and I'm pregnant so we do try to look after ourselves as much as we can. Even our 9 year old doesn't like junk food that much :T But we're all completely fed up with eating the same things.
We have a slow cooker and it's sat collecting dust in the cupboard after the first 3 or 4 months of regular use, our breadmaker was rubbish so I gave it away and I don't seem to have enough time to bake by hand anymore (I work pretty much full time and I'm knackered at night once we've done all the cooking/cleaning etc).
I feel really really down about all of this, our finances are not in great shape at the moment as I am the main wagearner and my OH is barely earning enough to cover his basic living expenses (he's studying for a qualification and can't get a full time job in the industry until he's qualified so he's in a dead end job until he qualifies which is minimum wage). We don't overspend on anything except food/household things so I really want to get on top of this. Obviously with the baby on the way I'm worried about money and OH is starting to be very panicy about it.
Can anybody give me a good slap and get me back on the right track? Please!
I've tried searching for the SC recipes and other good OS threads but I never seem to get any decent results from the search
Thanks

Make a list of what you already have and think about what you need to buy to make a meal out of it! Small steps!
:hugs: I know what ya mean about being knackered! My OH was very domesticated when we were dating - we've just moved in together and he does so little and I work full time too! Don't forget flylady!

Thanks Catt. My OH is pretty much working p/time at the moment so that he can speed up his studying and he does do the majority of the cooking thesedays but I still do my fair share of other stuff around the house so it's taking its toll on me! It just seems never ending.
The main reason we are so fed up is the complete lack of enthusiasm for meals - we are sick of eating the same things. OH is great at inventing meals out of certain ingredients but the problem is, we always have the same ingredients in.
I've just located the SC thread so I think we'll go through that tonight and see what we can come up with. Thanks again. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have a look at the mealplan thread too - other peoples mealplanners give me plenty of ideas! Mine's getting a bit samey too as we're both doing Slimming World, though I do try a new recipe out at least once a week or so - last night it was steak and mushroom pie!
Good luck!0 -

Get that tail out and start wagging it.. this is the first step back on the road to success!!!
You did it once.. you can do it again!!
Small steps.. then a sit down.. then a bit bigger step!!!
I'd start with the thing which is bugging you the most.. sounds like it is a redundant neglected slowcooker!! and go from there!!
We had turkey casserole done in ours tonight.. yummy!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Glad you're back on here. I'm sure those threads above will help inspire you again. Remember, little by little. If you're really knackered after work work out the minimum you need to do to get by - you need to look after yourself too. I'm sure you will succeed in the end.Resolution:
