On-air required for radio station comps?

Do radio station comps require you to talk on air? If so, “am oot” as Duncan Bannatyne would say.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, nobody listens to the radio these days

I won with a radio last year and they recorded when they told me. If I'd known in advance they'd call, I would have dreaded it to stomach-pain levels... but it wasn't so bad at all, and I'm 99% nobody I knew listened to it (or would have known it was me) anyway. Totally worth it for the win... and happened so fast there wasn't a chance to worry.

This said, I do avoid comps that have an on-air contest element (like quiz questions). I don't think I could handle the pressure of that!0 -

T&Cs on the individual competitions should say - with some it is an integral part of the competition even if there is not a "quiz" element to it.0 -
I've never won a radio comp but I was accidentally live on Radio Adelaide in Australia many years ago when I answered the phone at my sister's student house (in Wimbledon, London) and found myself on-air discussing the popularity of Australian soaps in the UK. They had got hold of a London phone book and were trawling through numbers registered to people with the surname Minogue (my sister's landlord's name). It was a bizarre experience but with a radio phone call you've no sense of any audience. It was just like an ordinary phone call.0

When I won with radio city in feb it was live on air. I didn't hear it thankfully. I probably sounded like an idiot.. but i'll happily sound like an idiot again if I win something

I did go on air a couple of years ago and won an awesome prize. When I entered I didn't know it was "that type" of radio comp and when they rang I panicked then panicked some more and I'm not sure I would do it again!A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others.0

Well done folks, you're made of stern stuff! It is really tempting with the great prizes on offer but think I'll be scrutinising the T&Cs from now on. I'm too 'slow' to think on my feet in situations like that. Many thanks0

Nearly all of them do not require an answer on air or if they do it is the one already given when you entered the competition, they just want to get your reaction to winning "live".
There are not many where just getting on the radio comes first and then you are taking part in some sort of general knowledge quiz or identify the stars etc.0 -
I won a holiday to Houston with Smooth FM and they didn't put me on air or record me or anything. In fact they barely seemed to know what I'd won from the email that was sent to me!
In fact nobody connected with the prize wanted any kind of promotion whatsoever (not even Visit Houston, who actually bent over backwards with loads of extras).Total Value of wins in 2009: £900 appox. 2010: £730Wins 2011: Carlisle Utd Tickets (twice!), Baby Food Hamper, Straighteners, Chugginton Toy0
