Barclays - existing customer deals

Hi brokers! How would you rate Barclays - when it comes to retention deals that they offer to their own customers - are they better, worse, or the same as other lenders? I'm planning on remortgaging to them and don't want to keep changing lenders - so it will be a long term relationship 20+ years - would like to know if they are one of the lenders who treat their customers well. Thank you!

No one can forecast future events. As your mortgage balance reduces then will become harder and harder to save money by remortgaging. With the costs outweighing the benefits.

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand your answer. I plan to re-mortgage this year as my fix rate is ending in a couple of months from now. I don't want to remortgage again after this, so I'm looking for a lender who is usually good with retention deals. I've shortlisted Barclays - so I was asking whether they are on par, better, or worse than others.

There are too many different products between high street lenders for someone to say who's currently the best at retention deals. No one can predict the future with what lenders will stay competitive with their retention deals either; Barclays could be the best today and the worst in a years time.

It seems strange to want to just stick with one lender for 20+ years when you can shop around every few years, it's likely the biggest debt you'll have in your life, surely worth the little more effort to ensure maximum saving, even if this means using a broker?
