Tales Of Woe Wanted!

Unfortunately, my tale of woe started in September and looks set to continue until January!
In September I went mad in Ikea and spent £150 on frippery (only actually NEEDED about £40 of stuff for the flat as me and OH moved from parent's into our own place in June), also overspent on the food shopping budget and paid £89 in advance for 'bargain' caravan holiday in Cornwall.
October - Started the month already £50 overdrawn due to September's overspend. Cost £90 in petrol for Cornwall holiday, plus £70+ for days out and eating out. Got home with £12 to spare for remainder of October, and still had to pay car insurance.
November - started the month already £50 overdrawn due to October's overspend (that phrase has rather a familiar ring to it!) Need to buy tyres for car this month. Have also handed notice in on rented flat as we are intending to move to a 2 bed house on 1st Dec, so have to pay deposit and first months rent in advance at some point during November... will be able to cover some of the cost out of savings, but will either have to borrow or go into overdraft for the rest. Will be getting deposit back from flat, but this won't be until December.
December - Christmas - eeek! Have saved some towards gifts for OH and family, but nowhere near enough. Have no tree or decorations yet, have been buying one or two treats a week with shopping (and hiding in back of cupboard, so not tempted to scoff everything early!) and hoping to cadge Xmas dinner from family!
OH has got through to the final interview for a much better paid job, so fingers crossed!0 -

I went on holiday last december - you never think about the timing and expense when it comes to holidays - luckily our holiday was half board and we didnt spend "that much"

wow - £65 for a comp game?? I knew they were expensive (hubbys a ps3 addict) but wow wow wow. still if you're gonna get lots of use and enjoyment out of it, and can cut back/sell something to make it up then who am I to rain on your parade!
Guitar Hero comes with a guitar as a controller, the box is the size of a... small child! It's quite a big thing which is why it is so expensive.
I think I will sell one or two other games to make like £40, then Guitar Hero will become the price of a normal game.
When I was younger I never used to worry about how much anything cost... simpler days!Original Debt 08/10/07: £3200

Hey Roxie. I'm right there in that boat!
We're really short this month. £290 for all food, petrol and everything else for the rest of the month. I'm on the make £10 a day challenge which I'm pretty sure I saw you there too. I've listed 28 items on ebay on Sunday to try and help. I also just bought a PS3 game for OH (but mine was with £50 of vouchers I won at work in Oct) and he's playing it all the time.
First thing I did was go through the cupboards to see what we have to eat. Managed £13 shopping this week and used a £5 Morrisons voucher so a good start but it's going to be TOUGH! Hope we both make it through.
PS - Away with work overnight tonight. Free internet @ hotel and £25 to eat/drink so at least I'll eat like a queen tonight :rotfl:Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Hi Sammiboo and Frags
Erm, we're planning on moving next year - eek. Lets not even think about that one!
callisto - damn ikea. it is a killer. thing is, there are so many 'bargains' it'd almost be rude not to. to be fair though, practically our old house is furnished ikea for a few hundred quid so they've done alright by us!
carrliadierre - can you buy it through quidco and save about 10%, or, as you said, tradiing in is a good idea!
mookybargirl - hi to a fellow ps3 widow!! my OH is awful, hogging the tv all the time as he cant possibly play such an amazing machine on the little crappy tele upstairs! yes am on the £10 a day challenge - run out of steam though now and haven't got a clue? Thinking of taking the copper jar up to sainos cash counting thingy. going to photo some things for ebay today.
am going to try to get through as long as poss on whats in the cupboards etc - should be doable into next week hopefully.
ps hope you enjoyed your feasting on works dime! nothing tastes better than a free dinner does it!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

It's set upstairs on a slightly smaller tv than the one downstairs - he now wants a HD one as it's needed for the ps3
My feast was great - back to reality again, well until Monday when I'm away again
I've already raided the copper bank, your challenge if you wish to accept it is to count it out yourself and take to the bank instead of paying a cut to the machine to count it for you

Well October has been an expensive month for me too!
I also had a halloween party for my son! We had it at home but still had to pay for food and couldn't resist a couple of decorations (to add to the ones we already have!).
Also finally caved in and ordered DD a new mattress, which was £200!!! I know, I know, but she has allergies and asthma and it has a latex topping which is hypo allergenic, and her current mattress has springs digging into her and she deserves a good nights sleep!!!
We also had to renew the car tax and get the MOT done so that was another £300, plus DD's MP3 player was stolen at school so we bought her another one and that cost £60.
