Car fuel benefit i didn't have

I just noticed when looking through my online tax account on gov.uk that my previous employer had me down as having a car fuel benefit. My understanding of that was that if you got paid for fuel you used for private journeys this applied, but not if you only got paid back for mileage on company time.

I only ever claimed back 9p per mile for work related mileage, i did have the car available for private use but i fuelled the car myself and never claimed for commuting or private use.

This seems to have amounted to quite a large amount of deduction from my personal allowance and i'm not sure if it's correct that i should have been paying extra tax because of it.

I no longer have the car and have requested the car benefit is removed via the website.

Can anyone shed any light as it's all a bit confusing?

Did you receive a P11d for last year?

If so, does it state a value for fuel benefit?

Thanks for your reply. There is no amount shown for anything other than the Car itself which is listed as a total cash equivalent of £3,867.00 on the P11D, in fact, there doesn't appear to be any listing for fuel benefit on any page other than van fuel which is blank. This is on my P11D for 2017 to 2018, i never recieved one for this tax year, presumably because i left my job in July.

You need to contact HMRC and advise them you didn't have private fuel.
