so you say just resign giving 4 wks notice.....and look for something else.....you mean they will pay me mths notice but ask me to leave anyway is that what you are saying...like garden leave? I haven't done anything wrong ...

Before you do anything precipitous, I want to make something very, very clear. The only thing that you should be thinking about is whether you resign, and if you do, whether the employer will reduce the notice period or not; or whether you remain with this employer.
Everything else is irrelevant.
And you really need to grasp that. I'm sorry your mum is ill, toy don't like your job, and some of the people you work with aren't very nice. But those things have nothing to do with this.
And I'm saying that mostly because it's true, but partly because you are muddling it all up into one big mess. There is no reason to deduce from anything you've said that the employer had done anything wrong. There are people in a workplace who aren't nice. Maybe the job isn't right for you, or for anyone, but that's what it is. It's unfortunate that your mother's illness has coincided with all this. But...... You have to decide what is right for you, and how far these things might be manageable in different circumstances, and whether you can see those other circumstances happening.
Don't rush into things and make a mistake that you later regret.0 -
All you can do is be honest with your manager as you have a decent relationship with them. Tell them you were struggling with the job anyway, and now with your mother being ill you simply can't cope. If you could cope with a reduced workload i.e. one which can be done within your contracted hours tell them that.0

I have been in a very similar situation . If it were me, I'd quit tomorrow ..by email.
Apologies to all who have posted on here already , with great advice and from great posters . It's just that I have been through something similar , for almost 9 years .. not 9 months .
Best of luck in what you decide .0 -
Before you do ANYTHING get advice - not from a forum but from someone, perhaps the Citizens Advice Bureau? Or are there any workers organisations where you live. Or unions?
You are signed off sick with depression for a reason - you are ILL. Do not resign, you will get into a dire situation with the DWP if you can't find work. You are not thinking straight and that may be due to the mental health issues you are suffering from. Continue to see your doctor and take advice from them.
Get some unbiased employment rights advice if you can.0 -
Resign with proper notice explain things if you want and see what they say initially.
You may be due 1 week full pay even if still off sick.
If they don't offer to shorten the notice period and let you go early then you can offer that option giving up some of the notice pay.
That may be later in the same conversation but give them the chance to offer early release with or without notice pay first.0 -

No - I'm not suggesting you should necessarily resign - I'm just pointing out what might happen if you do. Garden leave does indeed mean being paid for a notice period during which you aren't required to attend work (although I believe they can theoretically call you in at any time) and it isn't just for employees who've done something wrong.0 -
Resigned - i await his answer:beer:

Outcome:
Resigned, walked out 1 month ago
Got temp role once sick note ran out
Still in temp role
Finish temp role this Friday
Start new perm role - smaller company, less responsibility, (only 3k less per yr) a wk tomorrow
Last company just paid me £200 bonus as a gesture of good will going into bank tomorrow
All in all had one wk of not working no income from temp role as that would have been illegal, as I was technically sick and on full pay, but I was paid for that week up to end of month so not out of pocket. And they agreed to early risignation at end of month that I was paid up to.
I AM VERY HAPPY- 7 INTERVIEWS AND I HAVE A NEW JOB
And my boss was lovely about it and said I gave a very strong contribution whilst there and that he was quite upset that I was leaving. And that if I need any references he would do that.

So glad things have worked out for you, well done.
I saw on someone else's post that life is too short to be unhappy at work - you are inspirational proof of how taking control of things yourself can sort that out.Originally Posted by shortcrust
