Credit cards, banks

Hi,
I have posted before, but as yet I am still struggling to face up to my situation and the reality of how bad my debts are.

An interesting point I found out is that if you have debt on a Barclaycard and have a Barclays current account Barclaycard can without warning withdraw funds from your current account if you are not paying your credit card bill, no DD has to be in place. I thought it maybe worth a mention

I sort of knew about this.

My OH claimed his bank charges back from Nat West and they paid off his OD and part of his loan with the money and only informed him after they had done it.

I know logically spending the money in that way makes sense, but he wanted to move and was going to use the money as a deposit on a new place.

Still we live and learn don't we.

    Thanks for the info.

As for your Debts have you read MSE Andrea's thread explaining how to do your SOA? Nothing is really as scary as it seems and everyone here is in the same situation.

  • All the banks have a right to do this, unfortunately.

That's why the first piece of advice you get from Payplan & the like is to set up a separate bank account with a creditor with whom you have no connection, and get your wages / benefit paid into that so that the banks cannot automatically take it. I was advised to keep paying the debts I had with my bank in full, and token payments to the others until I changed banks.
