Not sure where this should be put but mods please move if necessary.
I am staying at someone's house and have just burnt a Le Creuset type pan.
I've got all the burnt food off it but it has left it black, Anyone any ideas how to clean it please?

I'm getting a sense of deja-vu here. Where did the other thread disappear to?
Have you tried warming the pan with a little water, so the base is covered to loosen the burn? Drain off the excess and then wipe the smut off with a piece of kitchen roll.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Yes, I did the old trick of putting salt and water in and heating it, it got some off but it is still black.0 -
I always have stainless steel pans at home, lol, they are much more forgiving!!0

Proper Le Creuset can be bleached white again (though they dont recommend it) perhaps you could try a small spot first to make sure it will be ok ?
Or, leave a dissolved dishwasher tablet in it overnight.0 -
It is a french pan but not a genuine Le Creuset, it's a similar type. Not my pan though so panicing! !
I'll try the dish washer tablet, thanks0 -
I'd put some snorkers in it, with mushrooms and an egg and really enjoy myself. It is, as you say, a cheap copy and your friend probably never uses it, and now it has been christened!0

not sure if it will work but try some old fashioned soda crystal and boiling water, let it sit for a while, rinse and wash thoroughly.
Hope you have some success.Fibro-Warrior0 -
My mum always used to boil water with washing powder in for 20 mins or....stinks the house out but works a treat0

You probably don't have any of them in the house but Sterodent denture cleaning tablets sometimes work in situations like this. Add to as little hot water as is necessary to cover the burnt area and soak for a few hours.0

Success!!! Honey the witch suggested last night that I put a dissolved dish washer tablet in and leave it overnight. I already still had saltwater in it so I did that and boiled up the mixture and then left it soaking overnight.
This morning I boiled it up again and then cleaned it with a pot brush.
Most of the black had faded, so I did it again, put a dishwasher tablet in it and boiled it up again. Left it all day and by tits evening, it has almost gone, in fact it's better than before because it did have a little burn already on one side. I've just put another one in and boiled it up for 20mins as cwhisky45 suggested. Hopefully it will clear it completely so thank you all very much!!
Next time someone asks, you will all know what to say. Xx0
