Occasional jobs and child tax credits

Options
Hi,

Last year I declared all income via a tax returns and this reflected in my child tax credit claim so the final amounts matched. Does anyone know how 'occasional jobs' *** interact with child tax credits,I'm thinking about this tax year now.

I work online now and then and get around £800 per year. If I don't have to declare this on a tax return, does that mean I don't have to declare it for child tax credits? As the amounts won't match up and HMRC don't want to know about the <£1000.

Apologies I cannot find any guidance on this and I find it a bit odd.

***From April 2017 you can earn £1,000 tax-free extra income from 'occasional jobs' each tax year – for example, using your skills or time or selling your things to earn more cash.

technically you do have to declare it for child tax credits since it is indeed part of your income and should affect them

just the same way as dividends affect then even though there is a dividend allowance

I'm sure you'll understand the difference between the Govt not taking tax on income and the Govt not handing out benefits/extra money to those who have also benefited from that extra tax free income. It would be grossly unfair on those in receipt of tax credits if those who also got tax free income got the same level of credits as they do .
