Why don't you have a look at prices items similar to what you have are going for and watch to see what they sell for - different to what they are listed for as they may never sell! I've made a couple of hundred since June out of kids old clothes, books and DVDs. you make even more if you've designer labels or stuff with the labels still on (so don't take them off the unwanted pressies at xmas). why not start with maybe five or so items a week to start with rather than go into overload then meltdown trying to sell everything at once? Good luck!Mortgage OP 2026 £1920/2000Mortgage balance: £29,386

Setting up a spreadsheet where you enter all listing fees, paypal fees, postage fees, selling price and then final profit helps - as even when something only makes you, say, 39p if you sell quite a few it does soon add up. Obviously if you're running at a loss or just not selling things, you know what's happening and can just do a car boot and get rid!

Yes...but some aren't much at all. Oh, forgot - ebay listing and then final value fees!!

Seriously - I sold a LOT of things for only 99p but was very careful at including the correct (or slightly more) postage costs and getting my packing from poundland - always packed stuff very well too. I still managed to make profit and it all helps!CCCS DMP:Feb 07

Personally I have found the following helps:
- I have sold lots of reference books this past month ie; pregnancy, cleaning, babies, etc
- Clothes tend to sell well when in bundles, not singular items
- Popular authors' books sell really well, I've sold James Patterson, Tess Gerritsen and Patricia Cornwell books at a huge profit
- Keep starting bid price lowish, you can always stick a reserve on it.
- Keep descriptions short and simple, no point in waffling on, if you forget to put something in the description chances are interested buyers will ask anyway.
- Make sure the picture is clear

Since being out of work I have sold stuff from around the house & managed to pay for a week abroad for 3 of us with spending money.
Stuff that sold the best was:: Any sort of "good" china, Wade, Coalport etc (look for any ornaments lying about).
The really good thing was----used cosmetics & perfume??? all sold at good prices. Clarins, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Chanel. Even half empty bottles will sell if you are totally honest & start low.
However--- Ebay are now insisting that most "branded" goods are only sold through paypal. I have always fought against signing up to paypal for various reasons but it looks like I may have to now.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
hi determined, give it a go, i did a few yrs ago, i find it cheaper when they have their special price listing day, either 10p listing or 50% off listing.... you can download turbolister, and use that to add all your items on it over the months, then when ebay have the special price listings day, bung them all on using the turbolister....i have only mainly been selling books, but i started 4yrs ago with a box of old tv times & radio times that i found in my attic when i moved in..that raised £1400 which really came in handy....;)..i always list at 99p or less, just not going over the £1 mark, saves you a few pence on each item, if selling hundreds, that saves....anyway, books are only 5p to list nearly all yr round.. . give it a go, plus over the yrs you use ebay, you will get to know what sells well and what dont, which gives you that extra bit of fun looking around charity shops or boot sales... good luck;)(879Corduroy pillows are making headlines! also, you can pick up some very good bargains in the joblots or wholesales section,or in the mis-spelled items , to resell.....or the wrongly timed finishing times..its a mistake, as i have found out, to have your auctions finish very early in the morning, most of the bidding happens in the last hour, and there aint many people wanting to bid on your item at 6 am.... also, i always list the item on a 10 days and normally start it on a thursday, that way, you get 2 full weekends, where more people are off work and morelikely to bid....also lunchtime is a good time to finish, because a lot of office workers bid while at work...... just little tips but they help me
