I see no reason for delaying applying for the A&L account. I think you can go through Quidco to get cashback, or get someone to Refer you - look at the Referrals board here.

Loan... I don't know much about it but think your chances of getting one at a decent rate will be much greater if you have a job. But I don't know... someone more knowledgeable may come along soon.

I think, I would sign up with all agencies, you can do it on line now, and they come up with positions to match your skills. Sometimes even if you go in to do something completely different you can find a niche there once you are in. I left banking and wanted to do something in web design but needed to earn a minimum amount as well. I went into a local company to do some data inputting to keep me afloat, and kind of stayed and developed my skills in other areas of IT. I still do web stuff, but not as much as I could 'cos I am a lazy a*se. I am still self employed though and like the flexibility that brings. You might find employers who would like to take you on on that basis as you come without the "on costs" etc etc.
