Juicing.....on a budget so can't afford organic....OK to still leave skins on & weight of beetroot ?

Options
Hi all, have a Heston Blumantile juicer. Centrifugal but apparently one of the only ones that's SO FAST (you can do WHOLE APPLES in it!) hardly any enzymes or vitamins are lost.

Bargain off EBay....ex display but still 1 yr guarantee. Very easy to clean.

I've recently not been well & have been using the juicer with internal organ friendly ingredients.... I.e beets/carrots, apples, raw rhubarb etc.

As I'm on a budget can't afford organic so tend to get best market/supermarket deals of the day. I generally scrub veg/fruits well & juice....is this OK?

Also.....as the juicer let's through some fibre when I use beets I ahem.....tend to have a loose (but not really bad lol!) 'Number 2 ' reaction a few hrs later (!!)....so from now on will peel these.

Anyone any idea on weight in grams/oz for 1 person/1 juice for beetroot? I also last year had a similar reaction to broccoli/cabbage, which I know is good for you!

I have 2 juices a day, 1st on am empty stomach & wait 45 mins to 1 hr before other foods (an online site said as beets are such an intensive tonic that should not be taken on an empty stomach for 30 mins after having a glass of warm water, will try this).

I also tend to peel & juice a whole small lemon & a lump of raw ginger & add to juice. I take turmeric & black pepper tablets once a day.

Any thoughts/links kind people?

Thanks!:T:beer:

    Hi Debt Monkey,

My son & I have done a lot of juicing, though we've fallen by the wayside a bit recently, perhaps because our juicer isn't that easy to clean :D
I have a couple of books by Jason Vale aka the Juicemaster https://www.juicemaster.com but there are free recipes on his site, also kris carr.
Most of the recipes with beetroot in seem to use one small bulb, though others will say a half inch slice so cant really help with weight. We certainly dont use organic,we just wash everything well, and I get fruit and veg from the market and also Ald i if you have one near.
In one of my J ,Vale books there is a recipe for aiding digestion which includes fennel meant to be good for digestion ( 2cm chunk) same amount of ginger,a 3cm slice of pineapple,a 1/3 lemon,1/2 pear.Juice then add a small handful of finely chopped mint.He recommends drinking before a meal or sip slowly throughout a meal.
DS uses a lot of broccoli,(not tried cabbage) sometimes half a head but perhaps just try using a couple of florets until your stomach gets used to it.
Hope that helps and happy juicing :)
