Delay in remortgage due to solicitor

I am doing a remortgage and although the mortgage offer was issued well ahead and I signed, filled and sent all documents to the bank's solicitors in time, the completion happens 11 days after my previous mortgage deal expired. As a result, I have to overpay around £400 (the difference between the standard interest rate and a new one for 11 days). I wonder if anyone had similar experience before and made a successful complaint to the solicitors as they were too slow to prepare the paperwork?

Lenders free legal services are horrendous generally and you get what you pay for (free). Delays and a slow service seems to be the norm most of the time. I'd be surprised if your complaint got anywhere, but lesson learnt either way.I am a Mortgage Broker.

What did the solicitors do that was slow, you need to identify grounds. Was it something beyond their control?
While you say 11 days. How many working days was it.0 -
I don't think it's free. We pay for them through the mortgage fees. It's what they what us to think to avoid responsibilities. In any case, from the legal point of view, it does not matter whether it's free or not, if it causes a material loss. But yes, I don't think the complaint will make any difference. They will probably find a clause in the contract which let them off the hook.Lenders free legal services are horrendous generally and you get what you pay for (free). It was meant from the beginning that the remortgage should have happened when the current deal expired. The solicitors were aware of it. It took them days to review the questionnaire and other docs and they were very difficult to get hold of. I'm paying the interest regardless whether it's a working day or a holiday. So I don't think it matters from my point of view.Thrugelmir wrote: »What did the solicitors do that was slow, you need to identify grounds. Was it something beyond their control?
