Strange Pay Day Loan reclaiming situation

Options
Around a year ago Sunny (The PDL Company) said I could pay of the remainder of my debt £500, for a reduced amount £170.

My mum, who has authorization on the account, paid of £160 on one card, then rang back 10 minutes later to pay the remaining £10. They refused to accept the payment and said she was not authorized to do so, despite accepting the first payment.

When I tried to sort this out they told me they could no longer settle and had to now repay the full amount.

Do you think I can reclaim any of this, as it put me into financial difficulties?

I know thats a bit confusing

  • NO.
Why would she pay £160 if she knew that £170 was required?

Did this really happen as you have written?
  • She only had £160 in one of her accounts, so had to use 2 cards. She said she would ring back once she found her other card, which she did around 10 mins later

It's possible if she was speaking to a call centre the person she ended up speaking to second didn't have an updated record of her first call, if the turnaround was as quick as you say.

Seems a strange situation. Why not have just waited until she had both cards?

I'm unsure of your question, though - why did this in particular cause you financial difficulties? Did you end up having to repay the full £500?
"Facism arrives as your friend. • The reason they offered me the settlement in the first place is because i had many pay day loans with various companies, - and yes I ended up having to pay the full £500

Is it fair to assume that they gave you a time-limited offer, and that you failed to pay the reduced amount in full before their time limit expired?

If so, I doubt that there is much you can do about it.

Did they put the terms of this offer to you in writing?
  • They accepted £160 of the payment, then 10 minutes later when phoned again they would not accept the other £10. It was well within the time limit..

Ok, so she tried on your behalf, but failed to make the full payment within their time limit. Assuming that they clearly stated what the time limit was and what forms of payment are acceptable, I doubt you have any recourse under those circumstances.

No, she rang up on my behalf about a week before the deadline, the 2 phone calls were within 10-15 minutes of eachother..

Exactly so - she tried and failed to make the full payment within their timescale. Correct?
  • Basically.

They asked for £170, she told them on the phone she only had £160 on one of her cards, and would have to ring back 10 minutes later when she found her other card. They agreed to this on the initial phone call. Then when she rang back 10 minutes later, they claimed she was no longer authorized to pay the bill as I hadn't informed them she could pay on my behalf. (I did, and have proof)

Then after a week they said the early repayment was no longer possible.

I could not ring them and pay myself for personal reasons.
