Tax Fraud?

Options
Hi

So Basically, a no. of months ago I logged into my online Tax account to understand my tax code so I could calculate my net pay.

on being in the portal, I was shocked to see i was apparently employed by a company known as SALEEITE CONTRACTING LTD, with one payment being £10k.
I called the tax office saying i had never worked or even heard of this company before who have accepted this and I received a letter confirming this.

To date, my account still says I am paid weekly by this company.

Since this first issue, I have changed jobs. This week i checked my portal again, and to my surprise, I am apparently employed by another company I have never heard of - HILSERNER Ltd.

Also, on both occasions, my contact address has changed to a location in Oldham??

Looking into these 'companies' the directors for both are based in the Philippines, with one Uk director.

Its all very strange - but what could this do to my tax going forward, and credit ratings?

Am i victim to fraud?

Sounds like your NINO is being used by somebody else, whether fraudulently or by accident it's impossible to say. I think you need to ask HMRC to investigate further, because eventually this is going to cause you problems.

    Many thanks for the reply.

I have asked HMRC to investigate, but not had any feedback from the new issue, let alone the original.

I know this could cause my taxation issues and i am trying to keep abreast of it - informing them of my actual situation - but for what reason could someone be fraudulently using my NINO?

While there may be reasons for fraudulent use I'm not sure what they would be, and I'd suggest that an error is actually more likely.
  • I've had the exact same issue for about 8 months now. HMRC just keep telling me they are investigating and can't tell me more for data protection. They fix my tax code so I don't get taxed on my main job but my account still shows an annual tax bill of £26k!

I think I will call them again to chase again.

I hope you get yours resolved quicker.
