Toaster problems (handle doesn't remain depressed)

When depressing the handle on either side (it has the option of heating either two or four slots) the handle springs back up thus switching it off... the only way to keep it switched on is to actually stand there and keep the handle depressed.

The filaments are as hot as normal and no other probs with it as far as I can see - any ideas with what's wrong? :o

Happy toaster eh? (won't stay depressed)!
Any way......... I'm guessing it's plugged up with crumbs. Unplug it, turn it upside down and shake the daylights out of it over a bin, all the time moving the handles up and down. Hopefully that will clear the little switches at the bottom of the travel.

Thanks for that - gave it a good shake - the left side worked but after a couple of seconds popped up and then refused to stick again (no change with the right side)... never mind, thanks peeps :)
