Class 3 voluntary NI contributions

Hi everyone. I am currently living in a EEA country. I lived in the UK for nine years and I paid nine years class 3 voluntary contributions. I have just one question - whether I will get any state pension when time comes. I am not sure if I can pay the tenth year from abroad yet so I was wondering what happens if you have just nine years paid.
Thank you in advance :hello:

If you’re eligible you can pay voluntary National Insurance contributions that go towards your State Pension and certain benefits and allowances if you return to the UK.

Voluntary National Insurance contributions paid from abroad don’t cover your health insurance in the country where you live.

Apply to pay voluntary National Insurance
Contact HMRC if you want to check your eligibility.

Are you working in the EEA country ?

If so it appears that any years working in that country and paying into their state pension scheme can be counted towards the ten required to recieve any UK state pension, although the actual amount would be based on just the nine years earned in this country.

  • It can be the situation when people are EU national which went to the UK to work for nine years and then came back to their country and don't have an intention to go to the UK again. What would be the rules in that situation?

    The current rules are here:

I would be surprised if anyone was able to say what will happen after Brexit.

We know that British EU officials will have their pensions protected after Brexit. It would be a very unfair outcome if EEA citizens who have lived, worked and paid taxes in this country did not in future receive what they are entitled to under the current system.
