We're looking for a Sony Bravia 40'' too - not sure which is the best model so will watch this thread with interest
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!
  • Makro are selling SONY KDL40U3000U for £499.99 + vat from 07/11/07:T
  • Hi,
I hope one of the 'TV wizards' sees this thread as I seem to recall the best Sony 40" has a U or a S at the end of the model number and I can't remember which. This would be a cracking buy at Makro if its the right model and JL might price match to boot and give their 5 year guarantee.;) Fingers crossed - regards - Sally

This is the base model of the new Sony 40" Lineup

If you want to look at the details go to
    http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=KDL-40U3000&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=Overview&imageType=Main&category=TVP+LCD+TV

    It's HD Ready (1080i / 720p 1366x768) Not FULL HD (1080p 1920x1080)
Connections wise it has 2 HDMI Sockets, 2 Scart and also a PC VGA Input

If you're not interested in the Full HD side it looks like a good TV and at a reasonable price, I'm very happy with the 40" Sony V series TV I bought a couple of weeks ago for £1000, and have never had any issues with the previous 3 Sony TV's I have owned.

    Hope this helps

Starting from base model to top of range

    HD Ready

    U3000
    P3000-P3020
    S3000
D3000 - I own this one and can thoroughly recommend it if you don't need full HD

    FULL HD

    40W2000
    40V3000
    40W3000
    40X3000/X3500

Anything with a 3000 series number after it is there latest version, 2000 series are earlier models that are being replaced by 3000 series

Have a go at www.love-film.net 's competition, they have a 40" tv up for grabs.

You need to join their basic £3.99 a month package but you get a 2 month free trial so join, get entered then cancel. Nothing better than a freebie.
