Accidental damage to work colleague?

Not sure if you mean manned CCTV.It should not be quite so simple as him just 'viewing the CCTV' there are strict regulations as to who has authorisation to view CCTV and your employer could be in breach if they do not adhere to them
Unmanned CCTV footage can be viewed by anyone the employer thinks should be able to.
That said, it sounds like this guy may be higher up the chain - head chef perhaps? or even joint owner?0 -
Only person to blame is the one who left the phone on the shelf.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0

Agreed , what idiot leaves a highly expensive iPhone charging in a kitchen? Charge it at home and have it in a locker at work whilst working. There should be no need to charge it in a kitchen.0

I would have thought (having no actual knowledge but applying that rarest of attributes, common sense) that no-one working in a kitchen should have their personal phone in there for myriad reasons, sudden distraction and the potential for accidents causing injury being the most obvious one.
Quite apart from that, presumably employees are employed to work not to take personal phone calls/texts/whatever. Presumably you have breaks wherein you can access your mobile phones.
I don't care if someone so careless is the big cheese; his phone, his problem. He sounds like an idiot to me. I hope this is resolved with no issue caused to you, OP. I would also give the idiot who left the broom there a thorough talking to, myself.
Good luck.0 -
Has there been developments?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Nah don’t pay0

There is no obvious negligence on the part of the OP. They didn't leave a broom where it could be knocked over, or an expensive phone where it might get damaged. I don't see that they have any responsibility or liability for what happened. They shouldn't offer to pay anything toward the cost of damage. If the owner of the phone hasn't insured it against accidental damage that's their problem.0
