norton chrome clash

Whenever I upload to google photos (which is very useful for comping from various devices for me) my pc crashes and I get a message saying that an application is conflicting with chrome and should be updated or removed and that the application is norton. Obv I'm not happy with removing my virus scanner.
I've found quite a lot of stuff on google about clashes between norton and chrome but nothing I can understand that seems to fix it. I read something on tech radar (I think) to do with code insertion by antiviruses into browsers causing issues - googling that phrase brings a load more stuff up that is over my head and implies norton isn't the only one.
Anyone shed any light on this at all please?
