Online Meat and FIsh

Last few years ive always shopped at Aldi as prices are very good, but the lack of organic ive turned to online ordering now and been using RIverford the last few weeks, the fruit and veg is very reasonable in comparison to everywhere else but the Meat is very expensive and they dont sell Fish, does anyone know of a more reasonablly priced place for these items?

The problem with Abel & Cole and Riverford, is that neither have slots. The order does turn up, but the time will vary depending on amount of other deliveries before you and traffic/weather. Not willing to wait in two days a week so I only use Riverford at Christmas.

ASDA doesn't seem to stock any organic meat or poultry anymore. Morrisons says that every store should have some, but I've only ever found the odd pack of chicken. Sainsbury's has some excellent organic steaks but I find their lamb is often tough. Their organic chicken portions can be a bit small. I don't use Waitrose, because I find Ocado better. The Ocado organic range is excellent. Last week I picked up a lot of meat at 20% off and 25% off.

Ocado and Abel & Cole both stock Daylesford Farm meat and poultry. It's excellent, but since I don't like Lord Bamford's Brextremism, I don't buy it anymore.

Abel & Cole used to feature a LOT of independent producers, but now seems to focus on Daylesford and Eversfield. Even some of the own-brand stuff comes from Daylesford.

When it comes to fish, wild is best. Organic salmon is still farmed salmon. I buy wild fish that's frozen at sea if I can - doesn't matter which store. Abel & Cole does do fresh wild fish from small fisheries and everything I've had has been great. Morrisons has a big array of fresh fish, some of it wild, but in my local store it's often stinky and can be off next day. Sainsbury's and ASDA both have good fresh fish counters as does Waitrose. DO ask though, because it's not all wild.


Also beware of the Iceland trick.. Atlantic salmon sounds wild, but it is also a type of salmon like red. pink and keta. DO read the packaging. By (EU) law, it has to state where the fish was caught.

ASDA and Sainsbuty's both do a good range of basic organic veg but for anything out of the ordinary like gem squash, black carrots and organic herbs your best bets are Abel and Cole or Riiverford. Ocado is improving though, I've bought organic frozen beefburgers, chips and green beans and resh organic collard greens.

Thanks for the reply didnt think anyone was going to, some good info there maybe I will try Abel and Cole then as they seem to have a broader range, have you ever tried Costco and where do you think is the most reasonable meat youve ever ordered (organic) Ocado and Abel and Cole?

I buy meat from Costco and whilst it is not the cheapest, it is a high standard however I don't buy their organic ranges so can't comment on that specifically

I looked at Costco organic but what we'd save on price we would lose on diesel to get there.

Ocado has a broader range than Abel and Cole eg Ocado organic, Waitrose Duchy, Pure Irish Organic, Eversfield, Daylesford, Helen Browning, The Black Farmer and even frozen organic Charolais beefburgers, from Picard. The prices for Ocado organic are competitive and you'll also find a bigger % knocked off at Ocado than at Abel & Cole.


However, that's not to say that Abel & Cole can't do value for money. Minimum order is something like 12.50 and delivery only 1.25 IIRC.
