We have started to pay our mortage by debit card but are going back to direct debit after this little problem;
My partner made a payment on our mortgage in October. At the end of October she made another payment for November and the lady on the telephone said, "So it's £600+" and my partner corrected her with the amount of "£300+" and the lady said, "Oh yes, that's right and that's gone through for you".
On checking my account, they had took £600+ out of our account via our debit card meaning we had paid £270+ too much. I contacted them and they said that it was down on their records as £300+ but they would refund the payment back onto the card (This was after a few calls and then me getting a little angry). I was told it would take 24-48 hours to clear.
4 days later and no money has been refunded. We rang them 2 times today and was told a manager would call us back. No one did. We called again and lost the call but they called us back. They explained it was not refunded back onto the card but they would investigate why it was not done. They then said they will refund it back onto the card but I continued that it would be too long and as the initial problem was not our fault and the lady last week said she had cleared it with a manger to be refunded back onto the card, they can either do a CHAPS transfer today or I can call down to their local office and collect the money. After being on hold for a short time, they said they would do the CHAPS transfer and as long it was done in 15 minutes (14:45 today the call ended) it would be in today by close of business or tomorrow morning.
I've been charged by my bank for missing two payments and going overdrawn which would have come out if my account wasn't cleared out by GMAC RFC but GMAC RFC did state they would refund that once we sent our proof.
Is the money likely to be back in my account today and what can I do if it isn't?

Hi
It should bein by tomorrow if they DO chaps. Most lenders and financial companies will refund charges with proof.
If this does not happen go to the FSA or ombudsman and complain. You can complain to GMAC first but rather than goin to the same ppl again look at the website and look for the how to complain section.

Well I was just checking my paperwork for GMAC and it appears we have been paying a high variable rate for some time, when we were supposed to be on a nice fixed rate for 26 months. Good job I checked the documentation, GMAC are investigating why it's on our agreement but hasn't been set up properly for us and will get back to me.
Can't wait to remortgage.:money: :money: :money: :money: :money: :money: :money: :money:So glad I found moneysavingexpert.com0
