Father's Day

With Father's day only a few weeks away now I thought it might be an idea to start a thread with some old style ideas / thoughts. I've made the decision that it'll be nicer for me to make something.
For my Dad & Grandad I am thinking about putting together a hamper with some freshly picked strawberries, some homemade jam (& bread?), homemade truffles (if I can remember the recipe that is), and a bottle of something.

Thanks Squeaky, it's given me some good ideas, now I just have to find out how to make chili oil.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

It's easy.
Get a bottle of olive oil (or pour some into a fancy bottle)
Pour a bit of oil out of the top
Chop 2 chillis up quite small bung in the bottle
Try and shove 2 more chillis into the top of the bottle
Leave to ferment/infuse whatever you call it
The big bits of chilli will float and the smaller bits will sink (I have no idea why)
I made some for a Christmas present and they got around to using it about April and they said it was really quite hot.
If you Dad is likely to use it up sooner or if he likes it HOT you could try adding birds eye chillis (they'll fit in the bottle better too) but be really careful and wear gloves when handling chillis (see another thread somewhere about chilli burns)
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Galtizz can I use fresh chilis? The recipe I found said to use dried ones but I only have fresh.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I used fresh, maybe you get a stronger flavour from dried and the infusion is quickerWhen life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0
