Proving gaps in employment history

Hi,
My other half has recently got a job with a charity. Before he can start, he has to prove what he has been doing for the past 5 years. Unfortunately, this is a mixture of recovering from a car crash and chronic illness.
They suggested proof of him signing on, but he wasn’t eligible so never did. We have submitted doctors letters for some of the time period, but still have some gaps. Any suggestions what might be accepted here, ideally without having to get a retrospective fit note (not even sure this is possible).

Your best bet is likely to be explaining to the charity what the situation is and asking them what proof would be acceptable. It may come down to a couple of referees who know your OH professionally (GP, hospital doctor, dentist etc) and can confirm he hasn't actually been residing at Her Majesty's Pleasure or anything equally untoward.

Tell the charity what you've told us, given them whatever you've got and ask them if they're happy with it. If not, ask them what they will accept to make themselves happy.
They're the only ones who know for sure, and they're the only ones who can offer him the job, or not, regardless of what we, "the internet", says.0 -
We are obviously trying to do this however he is having to go through an administration team who then pass on his message to the actual team that deal with verifying this stuff and things are getting lost in translation regarding what they actually need. Hence asking here.0

Unfortunately only the potential employer can give you a definitive answer. They are basically free to require whatever they like. All anybody here can do is guess what that might be.
My suggestion, assuming he has been with the same doctor (or at least practice) for the whole time is to ask them to write a letter detailing the periods of time when he was not well enough to work. The doctor can (and almost certainly will) charge for doing that. Whether it will be sufficient is totally up to the potential employer.0 -

Nobody here is going to know what they need. Make sure his messages are in writing and request responses in writing, which should cut down the scope for misunderstandings.0 -
Is it for a DBS check? If so just complete the form, you shouldn't need proof. it they are just asking, how about bank statements showing any benefits?0
