I've lost my will.What can I do.

My husband and I paid a ridiculous amount of money some years ago to make our Will and in a fit of 'spring cleaning' he has managed to throw away all of our paperwork. Does anyone have any ideas how we can find out who we made the will with? Thank you for any advice.

If it was years ago it may well be out of date (not necessarily in terms of what you want to achieve, but possibly in legislative terms).

Write a new one - shouldn't cost that much.

Did you use a solicitor (local?) or a will writing service?

Will aid is coming up if you want/need new ones.

  • Thanks, have looked and it's not in our area.

I have always suspected that solicitors use Will Aid as an excuse to write themselves in as executors to create a pipeline of chargeable business in the future. Am I being too cynical?

In my experience, yes! We have never had a solicitor suggest we use them as executors.

As the OP has no recollection who they made they will with, it must have been many years ago, so they really should just make new ones.

I'd say so - the ones I used didn't even suggest it.

Then again, my will was pretty simple, and the sole beneficiaries would be their own executors.

Wow they are missing a trick there - I would have at least expected them to suggest it.
