Employer/Company name on Social Media

Hello MSE Forum People!
I am employed by a small IT/Distribution company in the UK, there is no more than 35 employees. The company CEO does not allow any employees to add the company name we work for on any social media platforms, e.g, we are unable to add our current employer to LinkedIn or Facebook.
This is not in our employment contract but in a separate company terms and conditions.
My question is, Is this legal?
I believe this could be restricting my opportunities to seek further employment?
Kind Thanks!

Yes.
This is legal. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I guess they want to protect their reputation or prevent recruiters poaching good staff! My husband works in IT and is regularly telephoned by recruiters using linkedin. There are lots of legal cases where employers have tried to sue previous employees over contacts on their account etc.0

How? Why do you think that? (and if it is, your employer's policy would seem to be working effectively!)0 -
I didn't put for employer of 14 years on any of my social media. I got the first job I applied for.
Employer's may want to protect their reputation. Employees should want to ensure their employer has no reason to think what they say or do on social media can at all be linked to their employer. Apart from LinkedIn I would never list who I work for currently.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Yes, it is legal. It should not create any issues with applying for jobs as it doesn't prevent you putting your current company on your CV.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
