Good Mortgage brokers?

Options
Hello all,

Wanting to remortgage my flat and buy house - any recommendation on mortgage brokers? I am currently in contact with John Charcoal, however they're quite costly if deal goes through. Thanks.

The mortgage centre in clevedon is good if you are based in the south west.

London and Country dont charge a fee
  • Do you want good or do you want free as it is difficult to get both.

Good - will normally charge a fee because then they can take less clients and therefore give a better service

Free - will have to operate like a factory line and will have to take on a lot of clients to turn a profit. Expect to deal with your broker up to sign up and then be passed onto an unqualified administrator as your broker moves onto the next person

How much do John Charcoal charge - if somewhere under £500 then I wouldn't say they are expensive.

This thread would be better placed on the mortgage board.

One of ours was quoted £750 week before last.

  • You get what you pay for.

I usually reply to my clients queries within 2 hours but 2 times out of 3 straight away.

If I was operating on a fee free model it would be a couple of days instead.

I have always wondered how the free mortgage brokers afford to operate if the mortgage amount is say 40k and the lender comission is tiny?
  • ok you can do better than £750 - we charge half that and only on successful mortgage offer but we have to charge something otherwise we couldn't afford to operate (especially as 90% of my cases are shared ownership)

Until a couple of days ago they did them all with Santander. ;)

Key Solutions have been excellent so far...

Haven't yet had a mortgage offer but they got a MIP for us and have been easily contactable anytime and respond quickly

Although, as mentioned you could go out and do this yourself if you want to save £££'s and don't trust the ones you've spoken too...
