EORI number

Options
Hi

I'm sending a high value item outside of the uk.

I've been advised by the courier to apply for an EORI number

I'm an individual, and this is a one off sale.

Do I still need to?
Is it something that affects or I need to declare or state on my self employed sole trader self assessment? My day job is unrelated.

Thanks

I'd never heard of it, but the gov.uk website says:

"You need an EORI number to trade goods with countries outside the EU. If you’re based outside the EU you need an EORI number to trade goods with the UK."

Are you in one of those categories?

  • Well, I'm an individual selling a high value item to someone outside the uk, so in that sense, apparently I do.

The company I use will be packing and sending it, as well as the paperwork in terms of insurance, tax etc, so I can understand that as they said 'hmrc are clamping down'.

So I can see that. It's been around since 2009.

So I don't understand why it's not required when I've used high Street couriers like Royal mail, parcel force.

I don't mind having to do it.

I just want to know if it is, as I guess, unrelated to my self employed self assessment. As in, do I need to put anything on the form for the tax year
