Debt Arrangement Scheme (SCOTLAND)

Hi Everyone!
I have been trawling these forums for a couple months now looking for some advice (and getting very good advice indeed!).
I have been speaking to Payplan and after going through my income/expenditure, I have been recommended to start a DAS plan.
I understand not everyone on here is from Scotland however if anyone has any experiences they can share of being on a DAS, it would be highly appreciated!:D
Basically, I've sent letters to all my creditors (I am around £19-20k in debt:eek:) have only heard from 1 so far. My question is with anyone who has been through/currently going through a DAS, did you take a few months to build up an emergency fund/just general savings and let your debts default then start the payment plan? I'm just worried as I'm a single mother and then all of a sudden not having access to credit I'd like to have some back up money.
Any advice/experience is appreciated.:T
