Bus Lanes

Now that’s it’s been running a few weeks, are the Belfast bus lanes a success? I was never a fan and still think it’s silly but am interested in how others find it. Incidentally, the oft quoted “Glider busses are like a tram on wheels” is so annoying, what do they think trams ran on, skis? Or legs?

I was relieved they had second thoughts about the town - bound one outside the Odyssey... It was bad enough there without it.

I actually spotted an incident this morning with a bus sounding its horn at a slow moving cyclist within the lane causing the bus to go at a snail's pace.

The bus driver was in the wrong.

Who is allowed to use bus lanes besides buses of course?

I'm not convinced the public money spent to provide this glider service will ever prove to be money well spent. :money:

The road signs in the bus lanes will tell you the answer to that.

I just wish some drivers would understand that they are only in place from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday. The number of drivers who blindly sit in the outside lane at all hours of the day and night is infuriating. I sat behind one guy doing 23 mph all the way down from Dundonald cemetery to the Castlehill lights at 5.30am. Unlike others I refuse to undertake as I think it's even more dangerous but I was sorely tempted

I think it’s fear of making a mistake. A friend was fined for spending eight seconds in a bus lane before realising her error and correcting it.
    Or else it’s pure stupidity!
  • ... or may be he/she was just like me an non-regular driver in NI who by chance has heard about this (because the signs are very easily missed by non-regular or tourist drivers - especially when you're trying to keep focused on driving on the "wrong side" of the road) and right enough was afraid to make a mistake! Happened to me last September ... driving on the Anderstown Road and took me a while to realise I was not supposed to be in the right lane. Confusing it was, as I'm always around the Antrim Road when visiting and there's no glider rules there. Or at least there weren't in September.
