Mortgage renewal but big circumstance changes

Hi all.

Sorry to be so needy and leach straight away but it is needed.

Our current mortgage deal has ended, and our circumstances have changed a lot since we bought our home.

From a joint income of around 65k with mortgage and 2 cars to pay for.

To a redundancy, a one year old, a partner returning to uni for a year, both cars paid off, but only a total income of 40k for a year.

Now our fixed rate is up.

We tried a straight remortgage with another lender and were flat refused on the basis of earnings.

We owe around 185k on mortgage currently. Never missed a payment. 15k in savings.

Do we try a product change with current lender and hope it goes through?

Struggling with our options.
