Distillation Excercise - Assessment Centre

I've been invited to an Assessment Centre for Scottish Government.
The first thing is a Distillation Excercise, does anyone know what that actually is?
Best guess so far, is that team will be given lots of info and have to 'distill' the important facts.
Any advice much appreciated :)

It definitely seems to be a Scottish Government thing, if you search for "distillation exercise" many of the results are related to Scottish Government recruitment, although I've yet to find anything that actually describes what it is (but I'd suspect that your guess is correct).
  • I don't know, but wonder if it will be related to doing a precis of some paperwork? The reason I think this is that a friend of mine (who did TERRIBLY well in the Civil Service and is now earning megabucks in the private sector) told me, when she was thinking of going into the CS, that she thought she might be good at it because she was good at reading lots of documents and coming up with a precis. So I wonder if this is the same throughout the CS - and precis is the same as distilling facts, isn't it?,,,,,
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

    Thanks all,
I've now done the distillation exercise. It is as follows:
You are given paperwork, which you have to go through it and then prepare a briefing and recommendations. You present your findings and then have a few questions to answer to justify your recommendations.
Believe it was called a precis before ...

  • Hello ions, hope this one went well for you. Any chance you can remember what it was like? I have one soon and would be interested in how you found it and how I could prepare for it. :)
    Thanks!
