What do you mean by communications and leisure?

It is one of the categories of discretionary expenditure that the Insolvency Service use in calculation IPAs. There are 'caps' on these categories, and when I look at your circumstances, the figure given is an approximation of that cap.
The category covers things like home phone, mobile phone, internet and the leisure side can be SKY, trips out, most things really.

  • Try not to worry.

It's a LIVING allowance. It's not a "Screw you to the ground" allowance.

You will be allowed enough to live comfortably - make sure you don't put your figures too low. Don't make avoiding an IPA the goal here, make the goal allowing enough to live properly, without a lavish lifestyle. You may find that the figures end up precluding you from an IPA anyway.

    Thanks all for the advice.

Just a couple of more questions if you dont mind. I have quite a few pets do they take into account the number you have? I am not a hoarder or anything LOL but have 6 cats and 2 small dogs. Will they say I can only have a set amount to feed / vet care / general flea and worm treatment per month etc - the pets are quite a big expense but I would never be without them.
