thoughts from a broker if possible

I've asked a couple of questions on here and people tend to be generous with their time and knowledge so if anyone has any thoughts on this because I just don't know what to do for the best:(
the people who are (in theory) buying my house have yet to get a mortgage offer. initially this was turned down due to an admin error on their credit report which took 5 or 6 weeks to sort. that is done and I know for certain that it is. they are using an on line broker and submitted an application to the Halifax on the 17th. I also know this is true, I've seen evidence. when I've chased again he tells me he is still waiting for a decision. the actual words on the message he has from his on line broker are "currently undergoing initial assessment by their underwriters"
I'm trying to decide whether to put my house back on the market, id feel bad doing it they are nice people and genuinely want to buy the house, but I think that if we don't get any signs of anything moving on soon, I'm going to lose my onward purchase. they don't mind it being a slow process, but at the moment it doesn't seem like any kind of process at all.
I guess my question is what the longest timeframe it would take Halifax to complete the initial assessment?
anyone any ideas?
TIA.

    This is not right.

If Halifax will accept a case you would have had the call for the valuation by now.

More likely your buyers are struggling to obtain lending and considering other lenders.

I agree with AMN. We do not use Halifax massively, but they are anything but slow. I think I would be putting it back on the market.

Thank you both for responding. I'm away from home for a day or two, but will be putting it back on the market when I get back so I guess they have 48 hours to get sorted.

I think 4 weeks is more than enough time to get a mortgage offer.
