Bank accounts
Mismanagement
Thought I had posted this question earlier but it doesn't seem to have come up on the board, so I really am finally losing the plot.
It was a Monday morning panic about bank accounts.
OH is due in court for BR on Weds.
I realise now just how much we have not done in preparation and I running around like a headless chicken not sure what to do.
we have a joint current and business account plus an indivdual business account each. All with HSBC.
Do I need to write to the bank to forewarn them of our impending doom, or at least will it help?
Will they freeze all our accounts , even though it is only OH who is going bankrupt.
When they freeze do they reopen joint ones as indivduals to allow me to take over liability or do they just start demanding monies from me.
I tried to open a new account with the abbey online, but when the forms came they are asking me if I have ever defaulted. Well I have been sent notices of default myself but only from creditors who I have arranged new payment terms with. Does this count?
Am panicking as I think we are going to be left with no account. Should I just go straight down the high street and try to open another one. If so are any more accommodating than others.
Sorry for so many questions .
I haven't even started to cancel my direct debits and SO's yet as for some reason I naively though they would just magically stop and I could start them again from my shiney new bank account that hasn't appeared:eek:
Thanks for being out there

Your joint accounts could be frozen (I presume both personal and business). I would take out money and put them all in an account in your name only.
It depends what kind of arrangement you have made whether or not you have defaulted. If you are paying a good amount (not £1 per month) your cc provider probably hasn't defaulted.

Yep. It's up to the bank what they do with the joint ones.
But be aware that both HSBC and Abbey aren't normally BR friendly. Ones solely in the name of the bankrupt will almost certainly be permanently frozen/closed, while they won't exactly be best pleased with the others.
If you need an account set up before BR the the Co-op and Barclays are the friendly (sort of ) ones, but this late in the day it might be worth holding off till Wednesday after the BR. That way if they open the account after the BR (knowing the holder is BR) it won't be frozen by the bank and won't require the OR to tell them it's OK to keep open.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
