Oh wow, another supremely simple arithmetic problem which nearly everyone is getting wrong! Ok guys, show us the working and if you understand how to add and multiply - 60?, 70?, 17? 25? or perhaps 15 - I actually can't figure out how some of those could possibly be calculated.....

Sorry, wrong answer. Hint in above post.

BTW, the answer for 2+5x10 would be 52....

I get really depressed when these comps come up. It's always concerning when people don't know the difference between there, their and they're (or sometimes theyr'e) or two, too and to but when SO MANY people don't know the basics of arithmetic it's really worrying.
What do they do in the schools these days?

You are, of course, correct pate-ci0

    Not correct. ~Incorrect lol!

There is only OHE grey boot in the calculation. (the other calculation is a PAIR of grey boots.

    Or are they gray? Hmmm.

    Pink boot = 10
    Blue shoe = 5
    Grey boot = 1
    so calculate 5+1x10

I suggest you read all of pate-ci0's posts again and try to understand them.

So Sorry Sir. I've given up trying to understand. I think I said 60 anyway.

Hey, never give up trying to understand! I blame it on the methodologies which have been imposed on teaching (if it ain't broke, let's change it)

    3 Pink boots = 30 so Pink boot = 10
    Pinkboot + 2 Blueshoes = 20 so Blueshoes = (20-10)/2 = 5
    Blueshoe + 4(count them!) Greyboots = 9 so Greyboot = (9-5)/4 = 1

    Lastly:
    Blueshoe + Greyboot*Pinkboot = 5 + 1x10

No matter how, when, where or what you were taught in school, the rules of arithmetic precedence ALWAYS apply, and regardless of whether they appear or not, brackets are always assumed if necessary. Multiplication or Division always takes place before Addition or Subtraction. There can only be ONE correct answer for a simple calculation like this, it is NOT up to choice, otherwise planes would fall out of the sky....

The ONLY correct answer is 15

This is the best comp thread I've read in ages. 15. I'm tempted to follow it on FB just to see if they give the prize to someone with a different answer. (Also of course we're presuming that right and left shoes both count as 1, but I guess that's fair enough.)
