Council tax - abroad for a while & in between properties

Options
I am planning to leave my current property, put everything into storage - go abroad for 3 or 4 months, then rent somewhere as soon as I come back to the UK. My question is, what happens about council tax (& anything else, rather important that I haven't thoght of).

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

What's happening to the current property ?
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • It is a rented house.

When will the tenancy end in relation to your trip abroad ?

  • I think I would be abroad for 3 to 4 months maximum.

Does the tenancy end before you're abroad, whilst you're abroad etc

how does that answer the question?

    you rent
you are liable for council tax because you are the person renting the property

you have not explained what is different about the above just because you will be abroad for a long holiday?
  • I would be ending my tenancy, putting my things in storage, then going abroad. I don't intend to start renting anywhere until I get back to the UK

Council tax is a tax on UK property. You won't have any UK property. QED
