Dependents on a mortgage application

Afternoon all,

I split from my wife earlier this year and she's looking to buy out my equity at the moment so I'm starting to look around at how much I can borrow to work out what I can afford to move into a new home for myself.

The kids live with my ex and I pay her the CMS calculated maintenance every month.

I have them for the weekend once a fortnight, so averaging out at 1 day a week.

Are the kids still classed as dependents for the purposes of a mortgage application as I barely have them? My head says they probably are but it makes such a big difference to what I can borrow...

    Nope.

Dependents, or maintenance payments as an outgoing.

    Not both.

Ahhhh thanks, so as long as I list the maintenance on the application I don't have to list any dependents? That's great news. It makes such a big difference!
  • Are you not allowed/moved too far away to see your children for more than 1 day per week?

My ex refuses to let me have them any more than that.

    Yep. Spot on.

Effectively charging you twice for the same kids wouldn't be fair.
