A Moorcroft supposed debt question

Hi all,
This is my first post on the forums so please be gentle
2 days ago I received an automated phone call saying my name and telling me to call a number. This was picked up on my answer phone. The message didn't identify who it was from and I wasn't going to just call a random number as it sounded dodgy. I wrote the number that called me and typed it in google to see that it was from moorcroft debt recovery.
So today at 8am the phone rings again and this time I manage to answer it. A human was on the end saying he was from moorcroft debt recovery and asking for me by name, and after I asked what it was about he said a debt from British Gas.
As I told him on the phone I've never been a customer of British Gas. I said any further communication should be done via a letter.
I've noticed people have experience with debt collectors and wondering what your advise is for the next step I should take if they send me a letter. I live with my parents as I'm disabled so I've never paid a household bill in my life.
So what should be my next step if they send me a letter again stating I owe British Gas money?

Ask them for proof of the debt (i.e. bills or letters from British Gas with your name on), and send a copy of their letter to British Gas themselves asking them to explain. Mark your letter as a complaint to ensure it's picked up more quickly.0

Thanks DrSqueeze!
I'll do that. I'll report back to the thread with any update.0
