You're right, I'll have a chat with thim tonight about his lunch rather than just suddenly change it without warning, it's amazing what affects the insulin's effect like stress, being hot/cold etc. I expect he'll be quite excited about the change, and after reading all these posts, I'm going to try him on a museli ryvita and nuts with raisins (waiting to hear if he can take the nuts inti school) otherwise changing the nuts for pumpkin seeds.
I found out today that he's allowed to take crisps in too which will be a nice treat every once in a while and will be enough for his carbs too... he's pretty sensible too so I'll let him know what he NEEDS to eat (obviously if he agrees he wants it) and then give him a selection of babybel, pepperami or other meats, and a carrot to choose what he wants after that.
