Should I be worried? Help please

Hi all

Myself and my husband applied for a mortgage through our broker on Monday. Our broker yesterday called and said they have requested screenshots of the balances of all of our credit cards and it has worried me. I will give as much background info as possible:

We have around 100k equity after paying help to buy loan off in our current home which we are using as a 25% deposit on a £289k house, clearing 14k of debts and paying moving fees with.
My husband is the only earner apart from child benefit being in my name.
He earns 45k per year
Child benefit is around 3k per year
We have 3 credit cards one with 6k on, one with £2k on and one with £3k on
We also have a loan with NatWest that’s due to finish in a year for just over 1k
A £600 overdraft which we are in and out of and have had for 10 years

We have never defaulted on a single payment for anything and credit score is 970 excellent but it does say we are at the max lending wise on Experian.

We have applied for the mortgage with NatWest and made it clear that we want to pay all debts off on completion. We bank with NatWest, loan is with NatWest, current mortgage is with NatWest and application for new mortgage is with NatWest.

I’m just so worried that they will be put off by our debt and decline. We’ve paid a lot of upfront costs already and have 3 children and uncertainty literally drives me crazy 🤪 we really want to be debt free and enjoy a fresh start in our new home.

Should I be as worried as I am?
Any advice aprechiated

  • I dont think you should worry, when they credit check you the balances are 30 days out of date, they probably just want to see what the current balances are.

If the affordability numbers are ok then just wait.
