What Selling Sites am I Missing?

Options
So I used to sell alot on local Facebook Groups and it was pretty successful (not my own products just old clothes/household bits etc.) However my Facebook Account is temporarily locked and despite passing all ID checks I cannot get back into it (but that is a seperate rant  )

Anyway, I need to keep going on the selling bits and bobs, we are moving house so every little helps. I am on Sphock, Gumtree and Preloved. Sphock seems pretty good, Gumtree seems full of timewasters and Preloved i just don't get much response.

I really don't want to have to post, I want to keep it local and collection only so am avoiding ebay, I tried Vinted but again everyone wanted postage.

Am I missing any other decent selling sites? I have everything from clothes and shoes (both adult women and kids) to DVDs to brand new cosmetics to hundreds of books.

    Any suggestions?

SHpock seems to move very well for me perhaps it is the area I'm in. However at least half of my items are posted .

I'd give up with books , unless they are very special they don't sell, that mostly applies to DVDs and CDs as well now unfortunately.

  • If you haven't done it already, try one of the bulk-buying sites like WeBuyBooks, Ziffit, MusicMagpie etc for selling your books, CDs, DVDs and such like. They don't offer much but if you need to shift hundreds of items and need the space rather than the money they are ideal. Postage is free:j and if you have a lot the courier will even collect the box from your home. It's the best way, IMO, for getting rid of books in bulk these days. You don't have to bother writing listings or taking photos. Just enter the barcode on the website. There are apps, you can do it on your phone or PC. The income raised won't make you rich but every little helps:j. Enter the barcodes of your items in to several different sites, some pay more for some titles than others do. I was once offered 18p for a book on one site but £3.15 for it on another!

Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know:o but thought I'd mention it just in case.

    Good Luck:beer:
  • Thanks CarBootCrazy :-) I have read about those sites but was out off by having to buy the boxes and package up etc (as I say i have hundreds...) but probably worth looking into.

You don't need to buy boxes. You can reuse any strong boxes you have lying around. I've never bought a box for sending books in. I just recycle. Ditto with packaging, you need very little. The sites give packing guidelines and if you put the appropriate amount of books etc in a suitable sized box you need hardly anything else to pack with it.

I've send lots of consignments over the years using old boxes that I previously received stuff in plus a little recycled bubblewrap. Never had any items refused because of damage in transit.

Try selling a few books etc just to get a feel of how it works and if it's worth it to you. A small box with say 10 books would help you get a feel for it. You don't have to send hundreds all at once in massive boxes, Postage is free however you split up your items. Good luck:beer:

Just be aware that these sites pay very little per book and don't accept everything. If the book is a really popular one and they already have copies they'll not want another one! I use these sites for getting rid of big quantities of books that I can't sell elsewhere. It's merely to clear them rather than for any financial gain although what I get paid is always welcome. Every little helps after all:j

    There is, of course, ebay...

As for packing; in the interests of recycling, I like to receive something in a re-used box or folded & shaped cardboard from larger boxes, rather than a brand new one.

Oh, and gumtree's search facility is awfully bad - I bet loads of people miss out on sales because it's too difficult for buyers to find things and the searches return uninteresting "related" items as the top five of each page.

And gumtrees horrible habit of including eBay items as part of the search

As an idea about books, I was at an auction this week where books were being sold by the bookcase. Those that sold (mainly hardbacks) were going at around 300 books for £5-£8. A large lot of paperback books, approx 800 went unsold at £5.

I second Ziffit for selling books, DVDs, etc. They don't pay you loads, but it's so convenient, and we got around £200 last time we sold some books.
