Adult learner grants

Hi All
Apologies if this has been done already, but i'm pretty new round here and havnt been able to find an answer to my question.
I'm looking at options around financing some training as an adult learner with a view to a career change. Its related to the industry I work in but unrelated directly to my occupation so my employer wont pay for it (and I wouldnt expect them to), but It means i'll need to take some unpaid time off work which will be between 4 and 16 weeks dependent on exactly what I opt for.
I'm in the same situation as thousands of people I think, where by I have a mortgage, a better half and a child and I need to maintain some form of financial support during this time and my other halfs wage wont meet this need.
Is anyone able to give me any pointers on avenues I could explore here?
Many thanks!

I found the National Careers Service to be useful in this area. They work with all ages and levels.0
