I need a filling on a bottom tooth. I have paid £40 for a check up ad dentist said I need a filling on front facing part of lower tooth - cost £135!
Does this sound about right?
She also said I will need another 2 fillings done and probably root canal!
My teeth seem okay to me!
I just went for a check up!

You need t find an NH practice that has appointments available.

Why did you go for a check up if you knew your teeth were fine?
You went because you are probably intelligent enough to know that a tooth that hurts has probably had something wrong with it for a fair while, and that catching things early before they hurt is a better and cheaper way to look after your dental health.
So - you went, and are now surprised that a few things have been found, and it's going to cost you a bit of money. Not what people want to hear.
It seems like you went to as a private patient. So if it was a proper private practice (not just one that charges more for the same conveyor-belt rushed service they used to provide whilst NHS) They should have had time to explain to you, and show you with x-rays and possibly intra-oral pictures exactly what was going on, and why these fillings were necessary, and why there is a possibility that you may need a root filling.
If this was done, then that should give you more reassurance that what was proposed was necessary than any random people on an internet message board! If you felt confident they knew what they were talking about, and they explained things well, then you should also be confident that the charges are justified.
If you do genuinely feel that things were rushed, that things weren't explained very well, and you really have no idea why treatments outlined were necessary, then either ask to go back and get a better explanation from them (if they are a good place this shouldn't be a problem) or go elsewhere.
If you felt that it was a good service, and things were well explained, and they had time for you, and you are confident they will do a good job - you were just a bit put off by the costs, then this is a decision for you to make. But if you want things done well by good people, it does cost money!
You could go to a different place where things will be more rushed, people won't look as thoroughly, stuff could be missed. You will spend £20 on the exam and be told everything is fine! You will come away feeling this was a much better job as it agreed with what you though about your teeth in the first place!! All would be well for maybe 2 or 3 years until one day, probaly in the middle of a lovely holiday, the possible root filling flares up into an abscess and the holiday is ruined!!!
I don't know how good the dentist you have seen is. They might be excellent, they might be cowboys, but price is not the only way to measure it.
Did you feel that things were well explained to you by the dentist? Do you feel this was a good place that had your best interests at heart? If you did, they are worth the money, if you didn't, go elsewhere. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
