Santander Application

This was a direct application so I cant ask a broker so if any helpful person can tell me if this is normal I would really appreciate it.

We have a mortgage application that Santander has said has been approved by the underwriters and will give me an update once they receive the outcome of the valuation checks.

They haven't really asked for many documents - a payslip and proof of annual bonus from OH. They haven't asked any information regarding the gifted deposit or bank statements. Is this normal?

Is it also normal that we know the valuation checks happened 2 weeks ago and we are still waiting for the outcome. It is making us a little nervous that something has come up that is going to cause us a problem!

I thought Santander were great when I got my mortgage with them, though I've had a bank account with them for many years so maybe that helped the process.

I had a gifted deposit from my brother in law and Santander needed a letter from him to say this was a gift.

Not needing anything regarding the gifted deposit and no bank statements (I don't bank with Santander) has confused me a little bit because from everything I have read, they should be required. Hopefully a helpful broker may tell me it can happen.

They will probably ask for these a bit further down the process. You can also call them and ask them.

Wouldn't this happen before the underwriter has approved the application though? Hopefully we find out one way or the other soon!

I applied to a Santander mortgage mid-July. According to the date on the letter I received the mortgage offer was made two weeks later.

However bizarrely it took a further two weeks for this letter to actually arrive. This seems consistent with all other Santander mail (but all other mail to the property is delivered promptly!).

Therefore you may want to call for updates.

Unfortunately in my case the survey through up a whole number of issues so I didn't go any further with the application. Expect to be starting from scratch again within the next few months.
  • I was only asked for a payslip. The solcitor will probably ask you for a gifted deposit letter rather than Santander
  • I'm just going through a re-mortgage from nationwide to HSBC and surprised at the lack of things they are asking for.

Same as you, payslips, proof of bonus and copy of bank statement.

I wonder if they will ask for a load more when they have this.
